چکیده

This paper aims to show, that the preforming process of parts made of Carbon Fiber Reiforced Thermoplastics (CFRTP) can be improved, when using several technologies like near-net shape cut-piece generation with forming simulation, automated cut-piece detection, robotic gripping and laydown of fabrics. Thereby the authors of this paper want to contribute to the increase of CFRTP applications in modern aircrafts, which generally should lead to an increasing lightweight design of such aircrafts.

Three-dimensional printing of continuous-fiber composites by in-nozzle impregnation

We have developed a method for the three-dimensional (3D) printing of continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastics based on fused-deposition modeling. The technique enables direct 3D fabrication without the use of molds and may become the standard next-generation composite fabrication methodology. A thermoplastic filament and continuous fibers were separately supplied to the 3D printer and the fi...

A Zener±Stroh crack in a ®ber-reinforced composite material

A Zener±Stroh crack is formed by coalescing a dislocation pileup and therefore is a net dislocation loaded crack. In this paper, the interaction between a Zener±Stroch crack and surrounding cylindrical ®bers in a ®ber-reinforced composite material has been investigated. The crack is located in the matrix and near a ®ber, while the in ̄uence of other ®bers on the crack is considered through the t...

Fiber–fiber interactions in carbon mat thermoplastics

Carbon mat thermoplastics (CMT) consisting of 12.7 mm long, chopped carbon fibers in a polypropylene matrix were manufactured using the wetlay technique at fiber volume fractions (FVF) from 10% to 25%, and tests simulating the compression molding process were conducted. The packing stress of the CMT followed a power law relation with FVF. A single fiber pull-out fixture was used to measure the ...
